Basic National Creation in Leveller
By: AheadBMX_6
Introduction: This tutorial shows how to make a simple national MX track in leveller for Motocross Madness 2. You should already be fluent enough in leveller to know the basics in order to follow this tutorial.
Step 1: Starting a new map
Open up leveller create a new map(scene) if there is not already one open. Go up to the menu and click Edit<Resize Grid<Custom... Now you should have the following box pop up.
Set the width and Breadth (I do not know why they call it that) to 257 and the press OK. Now you have a flat plane ready to start your national on.
Step 2: Creating the base terrain :
There are many ways to do this but for simple, realistic nationals I like to just grab the Raise tool and draw a basic base terrain. Click the Raise tool on the menu to the left and set the settings like in the picture (You can change them to fit your needs).

Now once the Raise tool is selected start painting your Base terrain on the map like shown. I like to start from the middle and make my way out so I kind of have a mountain in the middle, but it all depends what kind of national your making.

Now once you have the terrain the way you like it you gotta smooth it out if you do not like bumpy off track terrain’s. Go up to the menu and click Filter<Smooth. Or you can just press F3, its a lot faster. Smooth the terrain until you are satisfied.

BAM! Now your lookin’ gooooood.
Step 3: Creating your layout :
Now that you have a good base terrain it is now time to make a bad, mofoin’ layout. Now there are a few ways you can do this but I like to grab the Selection tool and draw a selection then elevate<lower by 0.5. Click the Arbitrary selection tool in the menu to the left and leave the settings stock.

Once you have the Arbitrary selection tool selected you can start drawing your layout with it. With an average-grid-resy-national you should make the track path about 15 to 20 pixels wide. A good thing to know is that you can add to the selection by holding down the Shift key and drawing a selection, or you can take away from the selection by holding down the Control key and doing the same thing. I am just making a simple layout for this tutorial national, yours might be a lot more complex and complicated.

Once you have your selection/layout complete like the picture above you can "finalize" it so you can start making jumps and delete the selection so it does not get in the way. Go up to the menu and click Filter<Elevate and you should get the following box. Set the settings like the picture below.

Click OK and now you should have your layout "sunken" into your base terrain so now you can delete the selection.
Now you should have a terrain like the image above. You are now ready for the fun/hard/creative part.
Step 4: Making jumps and all that fun stuff :

All right, now its time for the part that makes your track what it is. As you can see in mine I have already placed a start/funnel in the terrain so I can either go from there or start somewhere else. If you have an idea for a straight then start there, that is what I usually do. I am gonna make a simple uphill-double type step-up. Find a place on your track with an uphill after a little flat straight like below.

Now once you have found an uphill like the one in the pictures you can start making your lip and landing. There are 3 ways to do this, but the one I like is the Selection the raise one. Click the Arbitrary selection tool in the left menu (the same one that you made your layout with). Now find a spot that is just about at the tranny of the hill and make a select across the track that is about 2 to 5 pixels wide. Use the zoom tool to get in closer.

Once you have your selection like you want it, you have to raise it to your liking. Go up to the menu and click Filter<Elevate and you should get the following box. I usually raise a step-up lip around 2 to 3 Grid units.
Click OK and now you should have a nice, sharp elevated lip within your selection like below.

Now its time to blur it to a real jump. Get rid of the selection and then select the Arbitrary selection tool from the menu to the left. Now make a selection about 3 to 5 pixels around your jump.

Once you have a selection around your lip like in the above image you need to go up to the menu and click Filter<Blur, or press F3. Do that a few times or to your liking and your jump should be formed. Be careful, you can only undo 1 time back.

Now do the same thing with the landing. Make an Arbitrary selection across the track, then click Filter<Elevate but this time set the settings to about 1 or 2 for step-up landings.

Now make a new selection around it and blur it more then you did the lip.
And that is it! Now when you go into dillo you have to adjust the height and make your track look like what is in leveller.
